Avesthagen becomes public limited company

Avesthagen, a leading knowledge-based life sciences company, has become a public limited company following an approval from the registrar of companies.

The company, set up in 2001, was a partnership entity with focus on food, pharma and population genetics in the life-science space. Now it is working towards achieving a preventive personalized healthcare model through its four strategic business units: bioPharmaceuticals, bioNutrition, bioAgriculture and science and Innovation. The company's partners include multiple top 10 global companies in each of its fields of research.

"The name change is a key milestone in our growth to broaden our corporate legal status and bring in stringent corporate governance. It also brings transparency in all our operations and the opportunity for future public participation in wealth creation as well. A public limited status will also help us to rope in public and institutional investments for future expansion needs, stated Dr Villoo Morawala-Patell, Founder and CMD, Avesthagen Limited.

It employs 500 people worldwide and is headquartered in Bangalore. In Bangalore, the company has established a world class, state-of-the-art laboratory facility. The company has grown into one of India's leading healthcare technology groups in India. Its activities include agri-biotechnologies product pipeline, development of clinically validated botanical bioactives derived from Indian medicinal plants, as well as the development of a pipeline of bio-similar drugs. It collaborates at every stage in the value chain with appropriate partners, both public and private, for access to and exchange of technology and overall commercial expertise to leverage the 'India advantage'.
